Matt Coryea – Ace Reporter Day 4: it’s over

Relief, that’s the one word I would use to describe the feeling I felt that morning packing up to head down to formation which would ultimately lead to us leaving. I was packed and we were, again as a squad, tasked with cleaning up Old Snell and the grounds surrounding it. Once we had eaten (much like the previous days) we formed up and were told to head back to our respective school’s formation. No long goodbye, thanks for the great weekend, you were all great, just an order and boom, we were back in Golden Knight Battalion formation. It makes you realize what’s important, it’s not your ability to like other people and be friendly, but your ability to work with other people and lead them.

As we were dismissed with a “From the Front” (our battalion motto) and a hooah, I couldn’t help but feel blessed that I would have the opportunity to do this for the rest of my life. Most people only dream of the clarity the Army instills, a sense of purpose, like a higher calling, it’s biblical.

That’s a narrow view into the world of ROTC, for a broader view check out the Golden Knight Battalion’s website to see what we’re up to. Or, if you want to get your hands dirty, you can contact our Recruiting officer, Major. Toth.

Thus ends the saga of this years Joint Field Training Exercise (JFTX). The primary reason we conduct this exercise is to prepare our cadets to succeed at LDAC and ultimately prepare them to be Second Lieutenants in the Army.

As the GKB MS IIIs head out to camp this summer you can follow their exploits at the usual GKB outlets or check out these Warrior Forge sites on the internet.
